Course Details

Scheduling: The schedule for live sessions will be created based on the requests of those who register. For most groups, weekends and/or weekday nights are the preferred meeting time.
Course Goal and Learning Objectives:
Goal: The goal of this program is to teach advanced clinical skills required for treating trauma.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Apply the 4 level-assessment to assess trauma symptoms and target interventions.
- Analyze the 4 phases of symptom cycles to design effective interventions that target challenging trauma symptoms such as self-harm and flashbacks.
- Use the 2 components of collaborative connecting to create the safety required to rapidly process trauma.
CE Approval: This course has been approved for 20 hours of continuing education by the NBCC. Additionally, this course meets the qualifications for 20 hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
Therapy that Works Institute programs are offered for NBCC credit (NBCC ACEP No. 7125). Additionally, the Therapy that Works Institute (Provider #1000141) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs.
Therapy that Works Institute maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
Course CE certificates will be awarded via email within 24 hours upon completion of all course modules, course quiz, and course evaluation.
Audience: This course is intended for experienced mental health clinicians, including counselors, family therapists, and social workers. Participants must possess Level 1 Certification in the Therapy that Works Unifying Framework or an equivalent 45 hours training in a single intervention model, such as Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Collaborative Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, etc.

This advanced skills training is built for mental health clinicians striving for excellence. To ensure readiness, all participants must have completed:
Therapy that Works Unifying Framework Level 1 course (a 45-hour training with 20 hours of live supervision)
Alternatively, participants can submit documentation that they have completed an equivalent 45-hour training (single class or series) with live skills training for a single clinical approach, such as:
- Dialectic Behavior Therapy
- Internal Family Systems
- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
- Collaborative Therapy
- Narrative Therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Trauma-Focused CBT
- Or similar approach

An award-winning author, educator, and TEDx speaker, Dr. Diane Gehart has trained thousands of licensed mental health professionals over the past 30 years, translating complex clinical theories into easily understood principles and practices.
She is the Founder of the Therapy that Works Institute, pioneering a Unifying Framework for Psychotherapy, and is Professor Emerita at California State University, Northridge.
Her authored works include Theory and Treatment Planning in Counseling and Psychotherapy, Mastering Competencies in Family Therapy, Mindfulness and Acceptance in Couple and Family Therapy, and Mindfulness for Chocolate Lovers: A Lighthearted Way to Stress Less and Savor More Each Day and she has co-edited two volumes on Collaborative-Dialogic Practices: Relationships and Conversations that Make a Difference Across Cultures and Contexts with Harlene Anderson.
